Camp Splinter is located at the confluence of Jakeman Run & Cranberry River in Monongahela National Forest just six miles from Richwood, WV.
There are two ways you can reach the Camp.
FIRST - From the Stop Light at the corner of Main Street & Oakford Avenue in Richwood:
Proceed out of town on Routes 39/55 towards Marlinton for about 1 mile.
Turn Left onto County Route 7/6 and proceed up the mountain about 3 miles.
Turn Hard Left (about 300°) onto County Road 7/2 and proceed.
Turn Right on to Forest Highway Rd 83 and proceed less than a mile.
Turn Left on to Monongahela National Forest Rd 83 (sign)and proceed 3.1 miles.
Slight right into Camp Splinter.
Users must cross a stream or walk across a footbridge. Access is along several miles of gravel road (FS Rt. 83 from FS Rt. 76) 7 miles from the turn off of WV 39/55 at the old (out of business) Blue Goose Restaurant.
THE SECOND WAY is to start at the stop light in Richwood. All mileage shown is from the stop light. Go up Oakford Avenue (North) for 0.1 mile and turn right on Cranberry Street.
Go to mile 2.9 and turn left on US Forest Service Road 83. Go to mile 3.3 (0.4 mile from turn off Cranberry) and turn left at the Camp Splinter sign. Continue on US Forest Service Road 83 to the end. This is a total of 6.4 miles from the traffic light.
You may either cross Jakeman's Run (most vehicles have no problem) or park at the wide area before the creek and walk across the foot bridge.
